If I could just stay on my feet for an entire day So my bones don’t feel like they’re made out of clay I think I’d be at ease Cuz my thoughts are a tease And they don’t really represent me One day I’ll just replace this with something that’s equally Foolish and pointless and dumb Moronic and dense, obsessively intense, illogically stubborn No clear rule of thumb In this useless conversation I don’t know what to say And what to take away And what to take away It’s not like I’d care And I doubt it matters
2.
Taking down my blood work Cuz we’re searching for a cancerous cell Breaking my enamel down It’s the strongest thing I’ll ever know And people have room to grow (and I’ve got room to learn) So let’s learn about each other and the others we don’t know Reading all the forums Of the covered space below But I don’t know the science Just to forget these fucking sideblows We learn about the lines we toe (to keep ourselves in check) Reintroduce the feeling of appealing to what you know My eyes will just roll over I know it’s getting pretty old It’s time I gouge them out (my eyes) It’s time I gouge them out
3.
They say this one Who’s so upfront They’ve got the stuff Violent asshole Who takes the role Of that’s enough Ignore the public Service announcement Cuz you’re so tough Chased down by Your own well-being And it’s a bluff So you fill up ur cup And look around and notice No one’s watching you So you climb on right up Just so you can prosper There’s a name for that Oh no I won’t catch up When everyone’s moving on And I still fuck with that
4.
Boaking 02:09
What do you make that stupid face for? Clean clothes and your fancy decor Takes too long to find you Walls covered in mildew And I’ve got such a futile ringtone And I’ve never broken a bone No depth here to explain Just reasons to complain And I’m gonna store this on my top shelf I’ve got a pile of dirty clothes that Missed the basket and I won’t fix that Can’t find it in my gut The energy to pick them up And now it’s 3:00 AM Toothbrush on the other end I think I might doze off Morning dry mouth standoff All these games I play with myself I’m gonna store them on my top shelf
5.
Twitch 02:10
I got my weak pulse yeah That or I can’t locate it Like I got brand new tires And they’re already deflated It’s just a slow leak yeah That or it’s all in my head Don’t mean to fuel a fire But there’s no common thread There’s just this muscle twitch that I can’t Tell if I created with my mind If I could flip a switch to change this I’d punch the currents out of line So the circuits can’t combine Pat it down (I won’t let it burn, I don’t wanna let it burn) Down (I won’t let it burn, I don’t wanna let it burn) Burning down (why’d you leave it out to burn? I don’t wanna let it burn) Down (I won’t let it burn, I don’t wanna let it burn)
6.
Onion People 02:49
Do I look any different? I own a pretty glassy eye I’m sorry if that’s confusing But I can’t let the meaning pass easily by I’ll try cultivating mass If someone pushed me I’d hit the ground, cut up my face, And let them stare me down But if that Feels too cold Just react As you're told Just inside It’s so warm My insight Deformed It’s what half my heart would say I can’t find any other way
7.
[interlude] 00:53
Do you know where you’re gonna go? I wish I knew cuz this shit blows I should spend my nights at different shows And all alone
8.
If you could see through A body would you Ever hesitate to tell the truth? I think they can see me There is no secrecy I think they can see me If this shiver won’t pass Like I asked I’m gonna lose my brain I’m gonna lose my brain This foul sense that I have It won’t pass What am I feeding myself? What am I feeding myself? I’ve been searching for a better way To speak eloquently but I can’t say If all these people that I know Would treat me better if I’d just let go I’ve been searching for a stronger detector For the bunk shit cuz all these projectors Make me wanna just ditch this scene Start all over and wipe the slate clean I’ve been searching for a place that’ll hold The cracks are thin and the people are care free The frames where the doors were are wide open We don’t fucking care cuz no one’ll break in
9.
I hear you I hear you I hear you Talk too slow Talk too slow Talk too slow Talk too slow And now I’ve ruffled the feathers Of this sad little bird And now it’s battered and weathered And rarely ever heard And I bleed from my mouth And I bleed from my mouth And I bleed from my mouth And I bleed from my mouth And after that Once we’ve cleaned out the sink Pathetic nod and a wink Yeah we can say that my mouth’s clean And after that Once we’ve wiped it all down And no one else is around Yeah we can say that my mouth’s clean Say my mouth’s clean And it feels like my insides Will never let me go back And I feel like this provides Enough content to unpack And I feel like my train of thought Has created this blind spot Where everything seems to get caught
10.
Praise the ones you know Praise the ones you know Praise the ones you know If you think you know Where your stomach goes When it whines and moans and groans Groans And groans Groans If you think you know The burning in your throat What do you have to show? If you think you know Where your stomach goes When it wants to be alone Put the flashlight down Keep your people around Watch em’ pound for pound If you think you know Where your stomach goes When it whines and moans and groans Groans Groans
11.
Warm 03:14
Let’s pour water on the bed And destroy everything we have And when it freezes we’ll break bread And melt it with our collective breath I wanna crawl inside the dishwasher I wanna see what happens in there I can’t withstand the temperatures And the burns will break me down beyond repair Why did we come all the way here? Why did we come all the way here? Why did we come all the way here? Was it just so we could be reassured? I’ve got no words for any of this But I gotta admit I feel quite warm at this moment And I’ve got nowhere to sit And that’s ok, is that a sign that I’m growing? I’ve got no words for any of this (I feel quite warm at this moment) And I’ve got nowhere to sit (I feel quite warm at this moment) I’ve got no words for any of this (I feel quite warm at this moment) And I’ve got nowhere to sit (I feel quite warm at this moment)

about

"I fucking loved this record from start to finish. Mechanical Canine play melodic, emo-tinged, mid- to up-tempo punkish rock with angular riffs and melodies mixed in, adding delicious layers of complexity; lyrics are sincere and funny and earnest. Mechanical Canine describe themselves as “Philly goofballs” on their Bandcamp page, and that works well enough, but such designation likewise fails to lay claim to how infectiously good their songs are. I want this as the soundtrack for my daily stumbles through life."
